How Savion Red Helped Longhorns Prepare For Jalen Milroe
USA TODAY Sports

Following a huge win like the one Texas had this past weekend over No. 3 Alabama, many people focus on the stars of the game whether it be quarterback Quinn Ewers or receiver AD Mitchell

However, there are many other players and coaches who often don't get credit for wins like this, but when speaking to the media  recently Steve Sarkisian made sure to shout one out. The Texas defense was tasked with slowing down Jalen Milroe, who may be one of the most athletic quarterbacks in all of college football.

It is truly hard to prepare for such a dynamic player, but the Longhorns had the next best thing during practice ahead of the game.

Being that none of the reserve quarterbacks are as elusive as Milroe, Texas actually turned to former receiver turned running back, Savion Red. Sarkisian praised his efforts and explained that he was really able to help the defense prepare.

“Everybody on our team has a role in the team’s success, and the job he did last week was really beneficial to our defense.”

Beneficial indeed, as the Longhorns ended up sacking Milrore a total of five times thanks to their never-ending pursuit, and they were also able to pick him off twice with one of the interceptions leading to a 14-point swing. Milroe completed just 51% of his passes and was limited to just 44 yards rushing on 2.9 yards per attempt in 15 carries.

The Longhorns likely won't have another quarterback quite as athletic remaining on the schedule, but if they do need to go blow-for-blow with another great athlete at signal caller, they appear to have the perfect scout team quarterback.
